The iPad could be the best mobile accessibility device on the market

How accessible is the iPad for the visually impaired? Apple products like iPod, iPhone and Ipad are not only praised because of their design and new user-interface,
but also because they are be made accessible for the visually impaired by default.

To understand just how deeply Apple has considered the blind community, Mac-cesibility has published an excellent series of
articles
on how the iPad’s use of VoiceOver along with the advantage of having a larger screen than the iPhone or iPad Touch has created a functional and useful
interface for the non-sighted. The use of audio feedback for screen actions along with an enhanced set of gestures not found on the iPhone creates a very
user friendly experience. The series goes on to cover, in depth, the use of Mail, Safari and iBooks using VoiceOver. The findings are that although the
iPad isn’t yet perfect for the visually impaired, the interface is excellent and “it will be a compelling alternative to far more expensive devices from
assistive tech companies.” They note that the iPad is a new category of device that really can’t be compared to netbooks or eBook readers, and with the
wide variety of already available iPhone/iPod Touch software, a user can accomplish just about anything on day one. This is not the case with any other
mobile device.

Nuance TALKS and ZOOMS Version 5.31 Release Notification

$

0

Introduction

We proudly announce the release of the Nuance Accessibility Suite – Nuance TALKS and ZOOMS – Version 5.31 supporting Series 60 3rd Edition / 5th Edition / Symbian^3 for November 6th, 2012. Version 5.31 is a free upgrade for all Premium Edition licenses generated after November 13th, 2007 (the release date of TALKS 3.50 for 3rd Edition). In particular, this means that it can be installed by any customer who is currently able to run version 4.11 or 5 without requiring a new license.
Please note that, as in previous versions, ZOOMS screen magnification is currently supported only on Series 60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition phones.

Changes to the list of supported phones

There are no changes to the list of supported phones in the version. It already resolves some issues with the support for the Belle FP1 firmware (which is used, for example, in the Nokia 808 PureView), but we are continuing to look at some remaining compatibility problems.
The Belle FP2 firmware update (only available for recent touch-only models, such as the Nokia 701 and 808 PureView) is not yet supported, and upgrading the firmware should be avoided because it will render some parts of the system, such as the keyboard, inaccessible.
See section 6 for a full list of compatible handsets for this version.

What’s New?

This section lists the improvements of TALKS&ZOOMS 5.31 compared to the previous version (5.30).

New version of Vocalizer:

Vocalizer 5.60.1: this version includes the latest updates from ongoing Vocalizer product development, with various improvements across several languages as voices.

New features:

  1. On recent 3rd Edition FP2 phones, emoticons (smileys) in text messages and the symbol table are now read.
  2. Improved automatic reading of “call waiting” screen (if TALKS is not muted permanently during call). In most situations, an incoming call should not be announced without the need to press any additional keys.
  3. Last spoken phrase can be copied to clipboard using [Talks],[long 8]. This copies the phrase “as spoken”, so that the names of some punctuation characters may be included as words in addition to the characters themselves, depending on the punctuation setting. As a confirmation, the phrase is spoken again.

Browser improvements:

  1. Combo boxes can be opened using [Select] in browser 7.3/7.4.
  2. Now supports text input fields using new HTML5-style field types. The increasing use of this new type of control was the reason why text fields on some popular pages stopped working with TALKS lately.
  3. “Reset” buttons in forms are now displayed as well.
  4. Now also supports “This page” links that go to an object identified by an ID attribute rather than its anchor name.
  5. Improved word-wrapping in virtual buffer for long text sections on web pages, especially in non-Latin scripts, to avoid cutting off sentence ends.
  6. Added support for BUTTON element in HTML
  7. Fixed repeating of “Text area” when typing in browser 7.3
  8. Clickable images outside of links with no alt/title text are now supported.

Application support:

  1. Fixed problems reading text field in WhatsApp 2.06.78.
  2. Labeled some additional icons (e.g. browser on C6-00, appointment flag in C6-00 month view, keyboard in Belle FP1).
  3. Allowed manual labeling of some currently unlabeled icons, e.g. on-screen buttons in Symbian^3 camera app.

Other changes:

  1. Character count is no longer repeated when entering a message in latest E6-00 firmware
  2. Added [Talk],[long 3] shortcut as alternative to [Talks],[long Exit] which does not work in Standby screen on phones which do not have a dedicated power key
  3. Fixed: App screen could temporarily become non-explorable after closing the virtual keyboard, if no characters have been entered for about five seconds.
  4. Fixed: Crash of camera application on Nokia 808 PureView.

Known Issues with specific phones and apps

This section lists some frequently reported known problems and limitations that may occur when using TALKS with particular handsets or apps:

  • Reading of phone screen is currently a bit verbose (e.g. name of caller repeated more than once), as a result of new caller ID support and some blinking icons.
  • Nokia C6-00: Using [Talks] shortcuts involving a digit key is not possible in the stand-by screen of this phone.
  • Daisy2go on Symbian Anna: after adding a new book to the bookshelf, the application will close. However, the book is added correctly and can be used after starting the application again.
  • Nokia E7-00: the default [Talks] key on this phone is the [Menu] key at the front of the device. On phones without Symbian Anna update, this key will not behave correctly if it is pressed twice too quickly, or if the touch screen is used within about a second after pressing [Talks]. It is recommended to upgrade to Symbian Anna, or to always wait a moment after pressing the [Talks] key on this phone.
  • Symbian^3 (without Symbian Anna update): double-tapping on a scroll bar may lead to a restart of the phone, especially if it is done quickly after opening a new window.
  • Nokia C5-03: In the List view of the main menu, no cursor is displayed when moving around with the side keys, so the focus is not spoken. As a workaround, use either Grid view, or explore the screen to select menu items.
  • Touch phones, mostly 5th Edition: Currently, some menus for switching to other keyboard layouts and for picking suggestions from the T9 dictionary are not fully accessible. Switching to other keyboard layouts is not recommended on 5th Edition phones, as some of them (e.g. mini-Qwerty or handwriting) are not yet supported by TALKS, and can be difficult to exit.
  • 5th Edition only: On some phones opening the symbol table in the on-screen keyboard can lead to the keyboard stopping to take input until you press [Exit] to go to the main menu, and then return to the application where you were entering text.
  • 5th Edition only: text entry into an object announced as “Fields” (e.g. a date or a time) is not supported well by this version of TALKS, as the virtual keyboard cannot be used with speech. This limits the use of the Calendar and Clock applications that rely on these types of objects for date and time input.
  • N97: training mode will read the digits, rather than the letters, for the keys in the top row of the QWERTY keyboard.
  • 3rd Edition (FP1 and FP2): the “Search” application is not supported.
  • 3rd Edition FP2: You will notice a slow response of voice recognition “beep” after holding [Key 2] when TALKS is not muted
  • E75: When using ZOOMS, moving around the screen by holding down the cursor keys is currently not possible. The magnified portion of the screen always follows the current focus position.

FAQ

Q: Your software does not install on my E-Series handset or branded device, and reports a Certificate Error! Why?
A: While TALKS&ZOOMS for Symbian itself is certified, and thus can be installed on any supported handset, the installers for the TTS engines (Eloquence or Vocalizer for Mobile) are not signed. E-Series handsets and some branded devices only accept the installation of signed software, unless you turn of the corresponding option inside the Application Manager:
Open the phone menu.
Open the App. Manager inside the Tools folder
Press “Options”, then select “Settings”.
Set “Software Installation” from “Signed only” to “All”.
Press “Back” to close the Settings dialogue, then “Exit” to close the App. Manager.
Now, you can install the TTS engine.
Another reason could be that the date on your phone is not set correctly – as Symbian apps need to be digitally signed, SIS files can only be installed if the phone is set to a valid date.

Q: Can I install the new release of TALKS&ZOOMS, while a previous release is active?
A: Yes, if the new version is installed to the same memory location as the previous release. If you would like to change the memory location, you have to remove the previous release first!

Q: Why do I get an “Upgrade error” when installing the S60 3rd/5th Edition version?
A: The most likely reasons are that you have used a beta release, or already have the Nokia TTS driver available that was installed as a separate file with version 3.10. Please remove any beta version, as well as the Nokia TTS driver or the Nuance Speech2Go Reader application, before upgrading to TALKS 5.22.

Q: Why do I get an “Invalid serial number” error when trying to activate a demo version of TALKS, even though I have entered the code correctly and never used TALKS on this phone before?
A: The most likely reason is that TALKS thinks the demo has already “expired” because the date on the phone is set incorrectly, usually to some date in the future.

Q: Why do the side keys on my touch screen phone no longer move the cursor after upgrading to the latest version of TALKS?
A: Some keyboard functions, such as [Talks],[digit] shortcuts on the Idle screen and the use of the side keys to navigate through menus on 5th Edition, are only supported after the phone has been rebooted once after installing or re-enabling TALKS.

MELIHAT DENGAN SUARA

Hey Gan!
Ada kabar bagus nih dibaca terus ya.:)
Dikutip dari Times of India:

WASHINGTON: Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have developed a new device that converts images into music to help individuals without vision
reach for objects in space. Sensory substitution devices (SSDs) use sound or touch to help the visually impaired perceive the visual scene surrounding them. The ideal SSD would assist
not only in sensing the environment but also in performing daily activities based on this input. For example, accurately reaching for a coffee cup, or
shaking a friend’s hand. In a new study, Hebrew scientists trained blindfolded sighted participants to perform fast and accurate movements using their new SSD, called EyeMusic.
The EyeMusic employs pleasant musical tones and scales to help the visually impaired “see” using music. This non-invasive SSD converts images into a combination
of musical notes, or “soundscapes.” The device was developed by the senior author Prof. Amir Amedi and his team at the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences (ELSC) and the Institute
for Medical Research Israel-Canada at the Hebrew University. The EyeMusic scans an image and represents pixels at high vertical locations as high-pitched musical notes and low vertical locations as low-pitched notes
according to a musical scale that will sound pleasant in many possible combinations. The image is scanned continuously, from left to right, and an auditory cue is used to mark the start of the scan. The horizontal location of a pixel is
indicated by the timing of the musical notes relative to the cue (the later it is sounded after the cue, the farther it is to the right), and the brightness
is encoded by the loudness of the sound. The EyeMusic’s algorithm uses different musical instruments for each of the five colours: white (vocals), blue (trumpet), red (reggae organ), green (synthesized
reed), yellow (violin); Black is represented by silence. Prof. Amedi said “The notes played span five octaves and were carefully chosen by musicians to create a pleasant experience for the users.” “We demonstrated in this study that the EyeMusic, which employs pleasant musical scales to convey visual information, can be used after a short training
period (in some cases, less than half an hour) to guide movements, similar to movements guided visually,” explained lead investigators Drs. Shelly Levy-Tzedek,
an ELSC researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and Prof. Amir Amedi. “The level of accuracy reached in our study indicates that performing daily tasks with an SSD is feasible, and indicates a potential for rehabilitative
use,” they added. The study tested the ability of 18 blindfolded sighted individuals to perform movements guided by the EyeMusic, and compared those movements to those performed
with visual guidance. At first, the blindfolded participants underwent a short familiarization session, where they learned to identify the location of
a single object (a white square) or of two adjacent objects (a white and a blue square). In the test sessions, participants used a stylus on a digitizing tablet to point to a white square located either in the north, the south, the east or
the west. In one block of trials they were blindfolded (SSD block), and in the other block (VIS block) the arm was placed under an opaque cover, so they
could see the screen but did not have direct visual feedback from the hand. The endpoint location of their hand was marked by a blue square. In the SSD block, they received feedback via the EyeMusic. In the VIS block, the feedback
was visual. “Participants were able to use auditory information to create a relatively precise spatial representation,” notes Dr. Levy-Tzedek. The study lends support to the hypothesis that representation of space in the brain may not be dependent on the modality with which the spatial information
is received, and that very little training is required to create a representation of space without vision, using sounds to guide fast and accurate movements. “SSDs may have great potential to provide detailed spatial information for the visually impaired, allowing them to interact with their external environment
and successfully make movements based on this information, but further research is now required to evaluate the use of our device in the blind,” concluded
Dr. Levy-Tzedek. The findings are published in the journal Restorative Neurology and Neuroscience.

Enhancements in JAWS 14.0.1036 (December 2012)

Berikut merupakan perbaikan JAWS 14 Desember 2012.

JAWS for Windows software program pembaca layar

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 14.0.918 release and the JAWS 14.0.1036 posting.

JAWS

  • Resolved an issue where JAWS was not raising the pitch of the synthesizer for capital letters when selecting by character using the Virtual PC Cursor. Note that the Vocalizer Direct voices do not support changing the pitch.
  • If you perform a Research It query from a currently open Results Viewer window, addressed an issue where JAWS was not automatically reading after the window refreshes with the new results.
  • Resolved an issue where braille would automatically pan unexpectedly while selecting text.
  • Pressing INSERT+C or ALT+CTRL+NUM PAD 5 from within a table in a Word document, Web page, or virtualized Outlook message now gives the correct cell information.
  • Resolved an issue where Braille Structured Mode was not displaying the correct information under certain circumstances in HTML windows.
  • If you are in the list of Flexible Web rules and Tutor Messages are configured to speak menu and control help, added a new help message informing you that you can press F2 to edit a rule.
  • Improved responsiveness when using JAWS with SAPI 5 voices, particularly on Windows 8.
  • Resolved issues of braille not tracking properly and cursor router buttons not moving the cursor as expected in various edit controls in WPF applications.
  • Addressed a customer reported issue where you could not read by character or word when renaming an item in the Windows Start menu.
  • The SHIFT+COMMA and SHIFT+PERIOD keystrokes for moving to the beginning or end of the current element now work more reliably. You can use these commands with regions, toolbars, lists, embedded objects (such as Flash), tables, and frames.
  • Resolved an intermittent issue where JAWS could unexpectedly close while modifying Flexible Web rules.
  • If you open a link from an Outlook message, or open a link in a new browser tab, resolved an issue where the braille display was not returning to the original position when you closed the resulting Web page.
  • Resolved a customer reported issue where frames on the iHeart Radio Web site could not be hidden using Flexible Web.
  • If you are using a Vocalizer Direct voice and you perform a spell command such as INSERT+UP ARROW twice quickly to spell the current line, there is now a more noticeable pause between letters.
  • Resolved issues with INSERT+B not always reading certain dialog boxes in tab order and sometimes repeating text.
  • If you select a link from a page displayed inside a Freedom Scientific webinar which opens a Web page outside of the training room, resolved an issue where JAWS was not indicating that a new browser window had opened.
  • Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+WINDOWS Key+F4 to perform a memory dump was displaying an “application file for JAWS” error.
  • Added the following keystrokes for the Focus Blue braille displays.
    • LEFT SHIFT+LEFT SELECTOR: Shows the top of the active window in Line Mode or the beginning of the line in Structured Mode.
    • RIGHT SHIFT+RIGHT SELECTOR: Shows the bottom of the active window in Line Mode or the end of the line in Structured Mode.
    • LEFT SHIFT+RIGHT SHIFT: Routes the Braille Cursor to the active cursor position.
  • Resolved a reported issue with a Say All not working as expected in documents that began with a blank line and that contained no period at the end of lines. This was primarily observed in Notepad.
  • If you are using JAWS and a Focus braille display over a Remote Desktop connection, resolved an issue where the keys on the Perkins-style keyboard would no longer enter the correct characters after pressing DOT 7 to perform a backspace.
  • JAWS now includes the latest drivers for the DECTalk and Triple-Talk speech synthesizers.
  • Resolved an issue observed more frequently with shorter braille displays such as the Focus 14 Blue where panning to show the remainder of a word too long to fit on the display would skip to the next word instead of showing the remainder of the current word.
  • Resolved an issue with the Wiktionary Research It lookup source not displaying the definitions of certain words as expected.
  • Addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading the correct information when selecting the Edit or Remove buttons on Facebook.com.
  • Added a new script function, MakeCharacterFromValue, which converts an integer value of a character to a character string. For example, 97 would return a lowercase a.
  • Pressing F1 from the Check for Updates dialog box no longer displays a Windows Help error.
  • When entering a password at the Windows Logon screen using the Spanish version of JAWS, the asterisk symbol is now shown on the braille display.
  • Resolved a reported issue with JAWS not reading some international characters properly when entering text in another language than that of the currently running version of Windows.

Microsoft Excel

  • Resolved an issue where certain controls in the Popular category, such as the Font Type and Color, were being spoken twice while navigating.
  • When opening the Spellchecker, addressed an issue where JAWS was not always reading the misspelled word in some instances.
  • Pressing INSERT+H while focused in a chart now displays specific hot keys that can be used in the chart.
  • Resolved an issue in the Data Validation dialog box where text in various edit fields was not spoken as it was selected.
  • Resolved an issue where pressing ENTER to move to a link to a cell from the Links List dialog box in the Custom Summary window was not moving focus to that cell in the spreadsheet as expected.
  • Pressing INSERT+F7 to read the misspelled word and suggestion now works from anywhere in the Spellchecker and is not limited to only working in the suggestions list.
  • When using the table layer keystrokes for reading data in cells in the current row or column, resolved an issue where the cell data was spoken, but not displayed in braille.
  • Addressed an issue with certain controls in the Options dialog box being announced twice when they gain focus.
  • When you press F6 to move to the Status Bar Toolbars, the message “status bar toolbar” is now only announced the first time the toolbar gains focus instead of being announced prior to each control as you navigate.
  • When selecting cells, if selection verbosity is set to all cells and the selection is larger than what is currently on the screen, addressed an issue where not all cells were read as you selected cells or regions. Note that if you select more than 1000 cells, JAWS will only read selected cells that are currently visible on the screen.
  • When editing a named range, navigating with the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW keys now only speaks the character at the cursor. You no longer hear the entire line spoken.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

  • Resolved multiple customer reported issues where pages and forms were not automatically refreshing as expected unless INSERT+ESC was used to manually refresh the screen.
  • Resolved an issue where changing the setting for how JAWS reads text links was not using the new setting until you move focus away from the browser then back.
  • Addressed issues using auto complete with forms on Web pages.
  • Resolved a customer reported issue where JAWS would read in English when using Navigation Quick Keys to move to elements on some non-English Web pages. JAWS would use the correct language voice when reading the page using the ARROW keys.
  • Addressed an issue with JAWS exiting Forms Mode unexpectedly while typing in a new message using the Gmail standard view.
  • Resolved an issue that was observed on some pages where JAWS would appear to become stuck on a link while navigating.
  • If you turned off the Table Titles option in Quick Settings, resolved an issue where JAWS still announced column titles as you navigated to each table cell.
  • Resolved an issue where DOTS 7 and 8 on the braille display were not indicating a selected item in a combo box.
  • Resolved an issue where the I and SHIFT+I keystrokes for moving to the next or previous item in a list was not moving to items contained in nested lists.
  • Resolved an issue that occurred on a small number of Web pages that use layout tables to display only text. In these situations, JAWS would display the text without any spaces which could make it difficult to read.
  • Addressed an issue where JavaScript alerts were not being read automatically in some instances.
  • Addressed a reported issue where Internet Explorer 9 would unexpectedly stop responding on certain Web sites when you selected a radio button.
  • When navigating through certain Web pages using the braille display panning buttons, addressed an issue where the display would temporarily pan and then jump back to the current position making it difficult to read text that extends beyond the length of the display. This occured in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Microsoft Office

  • Resolved an issue where typing in the search edit field of the Office 2007 and Office 2010 Help was causing every character entered to be announced twice.
  • Resolved an issue where the entire text of tree view items in various dialog boxes was not being shown on the braille display.
  • Resolved issues navigating edit spin boxes in various Microsoft Office dialog boxes where JAWS would sometimes skip values or speak items twice.
  • If you press the APPLICATIONS key on a misspelled word to open the context menu, addressed an issue where JAWS would skip to the second suggestion in the menu instead of selecting the first one as expected.

Microsoft Outlook

  • Added a new option, Message Type Announcement, to the Quick Settings dialog box for Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010. When turned on, JAWS announces the sender’s message type, for example, HTML or Plain Text. The default setting is Off.
  • If you press CTRL+SHIFT+C to copy the selected formatting, JAWS now confirms the formatting has been copied as it does in Word.
  • If a message address field, such as the To field, contained multiple e-mail addresses, resolved an issue where the braille display would not show all of the addresses if they went beyond the length of the display.
  • JAWS now automatically reads the contents of the Readability Statistics dialog box if you have configured Outlook to display this dialog box after a spell check is complete.
  • Resolved issues with various controls in the Signatures dialog box not being spoken correctly by JAWS.
  • Pressing ALT+1 or ALT+2 twice quickly from the body of a new message to move focus to the From or Sent fields, now gives an error message as these fields are not available in new messages.
  • When opening the Font dialog box from an open message, addressed an issue where JAWS was not announcing the title of the dialog box or the current control.
  • Resolved an issue where the Search Query edit field in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 was not being spoken by JAWS when navigating using TAB or SHIFT+TAB.
  • If you press INSERT+A twice quickly from the Calendar to display appointments in the Virtual Viewer, resolved an issue where JAWS would not automatically begin a Say All. Pressing INSERT+DOWN ARROW to begin a Say All would also not work.
  • Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+UP ARROW twice quickly to spell the current item in the message list was not including spaces when spelling the subject.
  • Removed the INSERT+SHIFT+W keystroke, which offered a convenient way to access the Outlook feature for opening a message in the default Web browser, as it is no longer needed. While this was necessary in previous versions of JAWS as it made it easier to read complex messages, JAWS 14 now displays e-mail messages by default in the Virtual Buffer so they read more like a Web page.
  • Addressed a customer reported issue where pressing a cursor router button on the braille display from the message list was not opening the selected message as expected.
  • Resolved an issue where changing both Document Presentation and Braille Mode settings could cause the contents of table cells to no longer be shown in braille.
  • Resolved an issue in the Outlook 2010 calendar where appointments were not being displayed in the Virtual Viewer when pressing INSERT+A twice quickly.
  • Addressed an issue where pressing ENTER on a link in certain messages would not open the link.
  • Addressed an issue where braille was not properly showing changes in indentation for bulleted and numbered lists where the indentation levels changed, or list items contained more than one line.
  • Grammatical error checking now works when editing a message.
  • Addressed an issue where JAWS was speaking information twice while navigating an appointment or meeting notification.
  • When specifying the occurrence for a new appointment, JAWS no longer shows “0 of 4″ on the braille display for the group of two radio buttons that let you choose to have the appointment occur every day or every week.
  • Addressed an issue where JAWS was claiming that certain virtualized messages contained tables when they did not.

Microsoft Word

  • When a document is set to original or final view without showing markup and Track Changes is off, addressed an issue where revisions were still being spoken and indicated in braille while navigating by line.
  • Addressed issues of JAWS not speaking the contents of embedded text objects.
  • Resolved an issue where read-only edit fields in the thesaurus were not formatted correctly in braille.
  • Resolved an issue where JAWS was not automatically speaking the items in the Show results from combo box in the
Research dialog box as you navigated. This occurred in both Word 2007 and 2010.
  • Resolved an issue where changing the measurement unit indication through Quick Settings was causing JAWS to no longer announce page, section, and column breaks while navigating the document.
  • Addressed an issue where the Title Definitions Clear option in Quick Settings was not clearing all column and row title settings as expected.
  • JAWS can now report autoshape objects that have been inserted into Word 2010 formatted documents. Note that JAWS will only detect the autoshape object when navigating by line and the object must be followed by a blank line.
  • If you navigate to a blank cell in a table using the Table Layer keystrokes (INSERT+SPACEBAR, T), the word “blank” is no longer shown on the braille display.
  • Removed the Table Options group from the Braille Options group in Quick Settings for Word as these settings can only be changed for tables in virtualized documents and not tables in Word. To customize how tables in Word are shown in braille, use the Define Structured Mode dialog box in Settings Center.
  • Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading as expected in the Form Properties dialog box.
  • Addressed an issue where braille was not properly refreshing when inserting a column or row into a table.
  • Addressed a customer reported issue where the INSERT+HOME and INSERT+PAGE UP commands were not working as expected if the cursor was positioned in the middle of a line and you edited the line without moving the cursor. These keystrokes read from the beginning of the line to the cursor and from the cursor to the end of the line respectively.
  • If you attempt to edit a footer that contains more than one line, resolved an issue where the cursor would immediately jump back to the first line when you tried moving to the second line.
  • Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+UP ARROW to read the current line in a table that is part of a footer was moving to the previous row instead.
  • If the JAWS Track Changes option in Quick Settings is off in a document with Word Track Changes enabled and the view is set to Final Showing Markup or Original Showing Markup, resolved an issue where revision information was still being announced by JAWS.
  • If Navigation Quick Keys are enabled in Word 2010 and you use SPACEBAR or BACKSPACE to move by page, resolved an issue where page numbers were not announced if the page contained a bulleted or numbered list.
  • Addressed an issue where changing the JAWS track changes option to a setting other than speak type, or type plus count was not working as expected.
  • If Document Presentation is set to Screen Layout and the braille mode is set to Line, resolved an issue where braille would not track properly when navigating tables.

Mozilla Firefox

  • Improved JAWS responsiveness on Web pages containing Flash content.
  • Resolved an issue where labels were not being read properly when navigating using TAB.
  • If you press INSERT+T while focused on a heading in Firefox or Internet Explorer, addressed an issue where only the text of the heading was shown on the braille display. The braille display will now show the page title, the application name, and the heading, which is the same information that is spoken.
  • Addressed issues using Navigation Quick Key R to move between ARIA radio buttons.
  • After changing the Auto Forms Mode option in Quick Settings, resolved an issue where it was necessary to move focus away from Firefox then back before the change would take affect.
  • Improved how JAWS reads radio button labels when in Forms Mode.
  • JAWS no longer speaks the message “out of table” when navigating ARIA grids on certain Web pages.
  • Addressed an issue where labels for check boxes on certain Web pages were not being read correctly if Auto Forms Mode was turned off.
  • Resolved an issue where performing a right-mouse-click using the NUM PAD ASTERISK key was not opening a context menu as expected on certain Web pages.
  • Addressed an issue encountered on certain Web pages containing several lists where the start of a list was sometimes not shown in the virtual buffer.
  • When opening the Document regions dialog box (CTRL+INSERT+SEMICOLON), resolved an issue where the current region would not be selected if the Virtual PC Cursor was on a region that was nested three levels deep.
  • JAWS is now much more responsive when navigating in the about:config dialog box.
  • When navigating a Web page that contains an ARIA application region, JAWS will now only alert you when you enter or leave an application region. JAWS will no longer say “application control” for every control by default.
  • Resolved an issue where JAWS was not announcing the aria-sortable property when used on columns in a table.
  • Addressed an issue of JAWS not properly announcing ARIA relationships. This includes aria-describedby, aria-controls, and aria-flowsto.

Windows Explorer

  • Addressed an issue in the list of drives in Windows Explorer where JAWS would not indicate if a drive was not selected.

PONSEL BRAILLE PERTAMA Di DUNIA

Press Trust of India | 18-May-2014 14:27 PM
London: OwnFone, a London-based company, claims to have put the world’s first Braille phone, which costs just 60 pounds, for sale in UK.
The phone has been designed to provide an instant connection between blind users and their friends and family, its manufacturers said.
The front and back of the phone, which is currently only available in the UK, is constructed using 3D printing techniques and can be customised.
According to OwnFone, its braille phone, that comes in a variety of different colours, is the first of its kind to go on sale.
The company can even print raised text on the keypad for those who can not read Braille, the ‘BBC News’ reported.
According to the inventor of the phone Tom Sunderland, 3D printing the front and back of the device helped to keep the costs down to 60 pounds.
“The phone can be personalised with two or four Braille buttons which are pre-programmed to call friends, family, carers or the emergency services,” Sunderland
said.
“This is the first phone to have a 3D printed keypad and for people that can’t read Braille, we can print texture and raised text on the phone. Our 3D
phone printing process is patent pending,” he said.
People who wish to buy the phone can create a custom design on the company’s website.
While this may be the first Braille phone available in the market, the idea has been explored before as well.
Last year, India-based start-up Kriyate developed a prototype Braille-enabled smartphone, featuring a repressible Braille display and feedback controls
that beep or vibrate after receiving certain commands, the report said.
